Trolls in our Imagination: Scary, Clumsy, Lovable
Lotta Gavel Adams knows A LOT about trolls. She grew up with them - in the forest around her Swedish family’s summer cabin - and in the books she read as a child. But it was not until she started to design a course in Scandinavian Children’s literature and Culture at the University of Washington- some 30 years ago - that she really began to explore and document the history of the trolls. Lotta wants to invite you to follow along on a journey into the world of the trolls in literature and film and art --- from around the mid-1800s to the present.
Lotta Gavel Adams is Emerita Professor of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she for 30 years taught courses on Nordic literature and culture, with special emphasis on drama, women writers and children’s literature. She held The Barbro Osher Endowed Chair in Swedish Studies at the University of Washington. She is a member of Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History, and Antiquities in Stockholm. Her primary research areas and passions are literature and the arts, which she sees as reflecting the heart and soul of the culture and the societies, in which they were created. She is a Vashon resident since 1995.
